A Family Practice

Ours is truly a “family” practice. For more than ten years, Dr. William Brown and Dr. “Jan” Brown have worked together professionally in practice, in addition to being married for over 30 years.

William G. Brown, MD

As a native Marylander, Dr. Brown attended public schools.  After graduating with a B.S. degree from Duke University in 1972, he received his M.D. degree from the University of Maryland in 1976.  Dr. Brown’s internship year was served at Maryland General Hospital and his Dermatology training at the University of Maryland from 1977-1980.  He has been in private practice since that time.

Dr. Brown has Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a disease that damages the insulation of the nerves of young adults.  It affects his legs and occasionally his arms, which is why his wife, Dr. “Jan” Brown assists in the office.  His daily challenges with MS allow him to know first-hand the experiences of patients.  He skillfully combines a friendly, personable manner with his vast Dermatology experience.  He mixes this with a good sense of humor to put his patients at ease.

Janet F. Brown, MD

Dr. “Jan” graduated with a B.A. from the University of Delaware.  She received her M.D. degree from the University of Maryland and interned at Maryland General Hospital.  She completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Johns Hopkins and is Board Certified in that specialty.

She joined the practice in 1992 to assist her husband, Dr. William Brown, with the surgery.  Now with over a decade of practical experience, she brings her caring approach to this specialty.

Kelly Valasek, PA-C
Physician Assistant-Certified

Originally from Virginia, Kelly graduated from The College of William and Mary in 2004, with a B.S. degree in Neuroscience. Continuing her education at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kelly graduated in 2007 with a Masters Degree in Physician Assistant studies. 

After exploring several medical specialties, Kelly realized her passion for dermatology. A love of caring for patient’s dermatologic conditions, while also providing cosmetic advice and services, brought Kelly to our practice in November 2007.  A true complement to our practice with her compassionate nature, Kelly helps all patients feel at ease.

Kelly currently lives in Columbia with her husband, Josh. 

Sheila Keppler, LE
Licensed Esthetician

Sheila joined William G. Brown, MD Dermatology & Associates, LLC in 2004, with extensive experience in critical care nursing from Baltimore Washington Medical Center, formerly North Arundel Hospital.  Sheila was also a paramedic in Baltimore for 3 ½ years, in addition to teaching basic life support skills to the community.

Since joining our practice, Sheila has developed a fond interest in dermatology, which has led her to continue her education.  She attended the Professional Esthetics Program at the Baltimore School of Massage, and graduated in early 2007, first in her class.  Sheila blends her medical experience and esthetics training to help patients achieve their skin care goals. 

Sheila plans to further continue her education, in the near future, as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

Sheila is a native of Glen Burnie and continues to live here with her husband, Jason, her sons, Michael and Zachary, and their happy pet family.
